Walks And Walking – Essex Walks – Epping Forest Bluebell Wood Video.

This video was taken on a 6 mile Essex walk in Epping Forest when we decided to try a circular walking route from Gilwell Park. Along the way we met some lady walkers who told us about a secret bluebell wood, so we did a quick detour, set my camera to video mode and had a good look around. Walks And Walking – Essex Walks

Essex walks is a selection of walking routes I have completed in the county of Essex.

Welcome To Essex - Perfect for walks and walking

Welcome To Essex - Perfect for walks and walking

The main areas covered include walks in Epping, Epping Forest, Theydon Bois, Chingford, Wanstead Park, Gilwell Park, Upshire, High Beach, Loughton and Ambresbury Banks as well as walking in Coggeshall, Kelvedon, Thorndon and other areas of the Essex countryside and coastline.

Essex walking routes cover farmland, small valleys, slight hill climbs, coastal walks, ancient forest and woodland walks. Walking in Essex is suitable for most walkers of any ability and does not require any professional walking accessories, like walking poles or a full rucksack of outdoor gear, specialist trekking clothes or camping equipment, as you are always close to public transport.

Essex walks require no real technical walking clothes but a sensible pair of walking boots or walking shoes are always recommended where the only threat to a thoroughly enjoyable walk would be stinging nettles, the occasional potholes in the ground or muddy pathways.

Please visit the rest of my Walks And Walking website for more detailed walks in Essex and even more UK walks which are all available completely free to read, print, walk and share. You can also post your own walking routes, hiking routes, trekking routes, mountain walks, hill walks, mountain climbs and all other types of outdoor activities on my Walks And Walking Facebook page and also on the Walks And Walking Twitter page.

Happy Walking!

Walks And Walking – Devon Walks Lynton Valley Of The Rocks Walking Route

Walks And Walking – Devon Walks Lynton Valley Of The Rocks Walking Route

The Valley of the Rocks is a steeply curved heathland dominating the landscape with rugged rock formations just outside of Lynton in Devon, where Exmoor meets the sea and offers superb walks and walking routes. This walk also covers a short section of the South West Coastal Path walking route and covers about 5 miles in total.

Be ready for a long steady climb, a short steady climb and then a short sharp shocker of a climb. You may need walking poles to steady yourself and a good pair of walking shoes with a windproof jacket to keep out the sea winds.

We parked at the main Bottom Meadow car park and walked up passed the church through the town until we reached the end where the main road bent round to the right. We then walked left up Crossmead and turned right at the junction at the top. As the road then bends we took the footpath straight ahead signposted to Lee Abbey and Bay.

We then walked passed a disused quarry and when the path forked we walked left at the signpost for Lee Abbey and Bay to then walk gently up through woodland until we then reached the spectacular views to the sea and back across Lynton.

As the path bears round to the left the views become ever more spectacular. Far below is the Valley of Rocks, flanked to the seaward by the craggy landmarks of Castle Rock and Rugged Jack. Ahead is Woody Bay and, on the nearer headland, the landmark of Duty Point Tower. We continued our walk across the high point before the pathway started its descent.

As Lee Abbey came in to sight we walked down the pathway as it zigged and zagged until we reached a gate where we walked right at the fork by the edge of the woodland signposted to Lee Abbey. We continued our walk to a junction of paths by a seat and continued walking straight ahead at the signpost for Lee Bay.

We then kept to the main pathway leading through the woodland before crossing a footbridge to then walk round to the right to another junction of paths but this time turned sharp right before the footbridge to walk down a narrow path signposted Lee Bay continuing down by the stream.

We then walked passed an old cottage, keeping it well to the left, where the path reached, and crossed, another stream. We then walked along the path as it started to bear left and then we arrived at a road. We had now arrived at the South West Coastal Path where we then started to head back to Lynton by turning right up the road to the 20mph sign continuing our walk up the road as it climbed up to Lee Abbey.

The Coast Path continues along the road into the Valley of Rocks where we then walked to the little roundabout in the road, bearing left, to pass between the two rocky outcrops of Castle Rock and Rugged Jack, and continued to follow the signposted Coast Path walking route.

Eventually the path becomes a lane and enters Lynton as North Walk. We now entered the final short stage our walk where we then walked left at the fork to descend in to Lynmouth where we then walked right up to the top of the hill returning back to the church and car park.

Walks And Walking – Essex Walks Hainault Forest Country Park Walking Route

Walks And Walking – Essex Walks Hainault Forest Country Park Walking Route

This walking route started at the entrance to Foxburrows Farm in Hainault Forest Country Park in Essex. I plotted this walking route from Hainault Forest where I joined the Three Forest Way following the London Loop to Chingford which was a mixture of ancient woodlands, forests, farmland, nature reserve and some village roads.

Standard walking clothes for today; walking trousers, walking boots, t-shirt and a waterproof jacket in my rucksack.

Three Forests Way in Hainault Forest - WalksAndWalking Essex Walks

Three Forests Way in Hainault Forest – WalksAndWalking Essex Walks

From the bottom right hand corner of the second car park, opposite the entrance to Foxburrows Farm, I walked up the wide grassy path towards the beacon at the edge of Hainault Forest Country Park. Just behind the beacon was an entrance to the ancient woodland where I turned sharp left to join the Three Forests Way. I followed this pathway all the way down to the road passing straight ahead at the signpost towards the childrens play area and a second signpost towards Hainault.

When the path bent round to the left by the footbridge I continued to walk straight ahead where the path narrowed and was a little overgrown to then turn left at the road edge and then right through the gap, crossing the road and then turning right to walk uphill towards Chigwell Row. At the kissing gate entrance to the Chigwell Row Wood local nature reserve I followed the main pathway into the wood to join the London Loop signposts.

After turning right in the wood by the London Loop signpost I exited Chigwell ROw Wood to turn right and walk straight up by the tennis courts to reach a kissing gate by the roadside. I then turned left to walk down the road to reach the next set of London Loop signposts where I turned right into Chapel Lane crossing 4 stiles to then reach the Water Works where I turned right to follow the metal green fencing around the perimeter of the water works to a gap in the hedge on my left hand side signposted the London Loop.

I then walked diagonally across the farmland following the very clear London Loop signposts on this section of the Three Forests Way to eventually reach the roadside where I turned right to walk up a short distance to the turn left into some wasteland to then reach the A113 where I crossed over the road turning left and then right into Roding Lane. Walking carefully I admired the large and extremely expensive homes to then turn right at the t-junction to cross over the M25 turning right into the entrance of the David Lloyd centre.

At the London Loop signpost I turned right into the Roding Valley Meadows Nature Reserve following the clear pathways around to a gate signposted the London Loop which then led me close to the shallow river. I couldn’t resist the urge to take a short cut and cross the river at the first opportunity to then walk around the left hand side of the lake and around the pathway to then turn left at the next London Loop signpost to then enter residential housing.

Continuing straight ahead I followed the London Loop signposts to turn left at the small childrens play area which sits just under the London Underground tube train lines. I continued along the road until its end where I turned right to cross over the train tracks to then continuing to follow the London Loop signposts across the fields and 3 kissing gates. Leaving the fields of Hill Farm through a narrow pathway by housing I turned right to walk up North End where I then turned left to walk up to the Buckhurst Hill village sign to cross straight over the road to enter the cricket pitch where I walked around the left hand side to then turn left into the Powells Forest to reach the road where I crossed over to the right hand side of the Warren Wood pub to then walk downhill to the road.

At the roadside edge I turned left to walk along the wide grassy path to then join the road by the Queen Elizabeth’s Hunting Lodge which is currently being renovated to walk downhill and into Chingford where I only had to wait a few minutes for a bus home! This walking route took me just under 3 hours and covered about 9 miles.
